About Dana Keller
This site exists because of one miserable weekend. I wanted to buy a single air fryer, opened a shopping tab, and fell straight into forty near-identical black boxes all shouting “BEST” in the same font. Hours later I still couldn’t have told you why one cost $60 and the next cost $300. So I did the boring thing properly — read the real tests, the manuals, the one-star reviews — and then figured I might as well write it down for the next person stuck in that tab.
I’ll say the honest part out loud: I’m a home cook, not a professional product tester. I don’t have a lab, and I’m not going to pretend I cooked identical fries in all forty. What I actually bring is patience for the slow part of buying an appliance, and a habit of noticing where the experts quietly disagree.
How I actually work
For every guide I pull the current rankings from the test kitchens and review labs — America’s Test Kitchen, RTINGS, Consumer Reports, Tom’s Guide and the rest — and line them up model by model to see who agrees with whom. Then I go into the manuals and spec sheets for the un-glamorous details that decide whether a thing actually works in your kitchen: how much clearance it needs behind it, where the timer caps out, what the basket is coated with, the real dimensions (not the marketing ones). Owner reviews after six months of greasy weeknight use count for more with me than any shiny first impression. And wherever a claim isn’t mine, I link to whoever made it so you can check my homework.
What I care about
Three things: a clear answer, the downsides said plainly, and nobody having to buy twice. That last one is why every single review here carries a “skip it if…” line that points you to a better pick when the one you’re reading about isn’t right for you. If I ever get hands-on with a model myself, I’ll tell you — and I’ll tell you for how long.
